Lochgilphead and Mid Argyll are associated with early settlers through the Knaps and Dales of Dalriada, and the most famous part of Dalriada and the local history is Dunadd (shown upper right) where Kings of Scotland were crowned. Dunadd offers panoramic views from its uppermost point, and you can stand your foot in a direct replica of the original stone at the top.
Kilmartin has significant historical links, in particular there are good examples of standing stones within its grounds and also en-route to Oban.
Through various walks and exploration you can see stones with details carvings, kept in the grounds of Kilmartin Church, but also across walks and parts of Argyll close to Lochgilphead.
